Description: This is a VERY RARE Blockade Cover from 1898. It was sent from the U.S.S Charleston which was off the coast of Manilla, Phillipines at the time, to Virginia. It has a MANUSCRIPT SHIP LETTER U.S.S CHARLESTON marking. It was sent via Hong Kong, and that's where things get interesting. The cover was dispatched by U.S. Navy Ship to Hong Kong, where it was then turned over to the U.S. Consulate for mailing. As such, it has a VIOLET HONG KONG CONSULAR OVAL Marking. It was franked with a Hong Kong Queen Victoria 10 Cent stamp, and cancelled with a HONG KONG D/JY 8/98 circle. This lot is over $100 USD so I will ship it using Priority Mail in the US, and registered mail overseas. This is to ensure that it reaches you in a safe and timely manner, and includes tracking!
