Pattern Description for all: Birds, Floral Branches, Gray Scrolls, Cream, 22 Karat Gold Trim, Smooth Edges. Made in Hopewell, Virginia, U.S.A. Note: The rim pattern shares a similar style to the Autumn pattern by Lenox. Company History: The pottery was founded by Sol Ostrow in ca. 1922 in Hopewell, Virginia. The company name was actually Hopewell China Company, and the Ostrow China mark used by them was a Trade Name. Hopewell China operated until ca. 1938, when it became the James River Potteries from ca. 1938 until 1940. Maker's Marks & Dating: Unless noted in the individual item descriptions, all pieces are marked with the "OSTROW China - Made in Virginia" Triangle with Banner mark. Date codes are printed underneath. Most of the Ostrow marked items are from 1929. The Hopewell marked pieces are from ca. 1920. Condition: There are no chips, cracks or repairs except a few items listed separately. Most pieces have heavy small crazing, some with stains. There is light to heavy wear to the gold trim on the edges, but light wear to the interior designs and light utensil marks. See individual item descriptions below. See photos. All are marked Hopewell China. * 5 - Fruit/Dessert (Sauce) Bowls, 5" Width x 1-1/4" Height. One bowl is marked Ostrow, and Four are marked Homer Laughlin, date code of 'K-9-N', or November 1929. Surprisingly, Replacements does not recognize a pattern like this made by Homer Laughlin. * 5 - Flat Cups, 2-1/4" Height x 4" Width x 4-5/8" Length (at Handle). All are marked only '22 Karat Gold Handles' * 4 - Saucers, 5-1/2" Width. Three are marked Ostrow and one is unmarked * 1 - Saucer - Chipped, 5-1/2" Width. Small 3/16" x 1/8" chip under the rim. Unmarked. See photos. * 1 - Sugar Bowl with Lid, 3-3/4" Height (with Lid, 2-1/2" Height to Handles) x 5-1/4" Width x 7" Length (at Handles). Lid is cracked and chipped; see photos. No crazing. Unmarked * 1 - 9" Oval Serving Bowl - Cracked, 9-1/4" Length x 7" Width x 2" Height. The crack does not leak. Stained & small flea bite chip under the rim; see photos. * 1 - Octagonal Covered Vegetable Serving Bowl with Lid, 8-3/4" Width x 11-1/8" Length (at Handles x 5" Height (with Lid, 3" Height at Handles).
