Description: Boston: S.E. Cassino and Company. First Edition hardcover (1885 for 5 volumes and 1884 for 1) exceptionally handsomely bound set of this popular Victorian natural history. This is a large set of books at 10.5 inches tall and averaging about 2 inches thick. Three quarter forest green morocco over matching green clother, gilt spine lettering. Minor shelfwear, mainly very minor bit of rubbing to the corners of the spine ends, barely perceptile and neatly repair tiny closed tear to the spin head of the first volume. This is the most pristine intact set that I have seen on these 140 year old books. Very clean pages free from names or other markings. An exceptional set to add to any library.
