Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Here we have a stunning tea bowl dating to the early to mid-1800s. These were called both tea bowls and waste bowls, their purpose was to hold used tea leaves. During the 1700s and early 1800s tea was an expensive commodity and after tea was brewed, the tea leaves would be saved in tea bowls until the next use. The form is always consistent, they always have flared sides, a recessed base and a molded raised foot. The bowl is decorated with five raised white bands and raised mocha bands above and below them. The glazed bands are well formed with no misses or smears. Measuring 5” wide by 2 ¾” high, this tea bowl is in original mint condition with no damage or repairs. This bold pattern of bands was a popular design used by the potter for other pottery items as seen in the last photo.
