Rare and Unique Late 17th/Early 18th Century Delft Tin Glazed Portrait Vase

Description: This auction is for a rare and unique late 17th/early 18th century Delft tin glazed portrait vase. This superb piece was purchased from a prominent Washington D.C. estate. I've owned many early Delft pieces in my last 40 years of collecting and have never seen such an amazing example. This vase was tagged late 17th/early 18th century Delft, I do agree. It has all of the attributes to prove this. Although a robust piece, it is a fairly lightweight earthenware vase synonymous with early Delftware. It is a bulbous tin glazed blue and white vase with a plethora of subject matter. I believe the artist was telling a story of sorts. To include a subdue hare, a prancing deer, a pair of bulls; in which one is still, and one is in a running pose, being chased by a hound and a castle, (see pics). Each theme is separated by flowers and vegetation. The vase has a multitude of decorative borders that are unique to each other. The neck of the vase has a continuous floral pattern, among the many other articulations and accents. This fine piece stands approx. 11 1/2" tall with generous proportions. This fine vase is unsigned as most. It has age-appropriate wear, with some glaze losses at the rim, which maybe have occurred during the firing process and typical glaze "pops" in the making process. The losses at the rim do not appear to be flakes. There are NO beaks, chips or cracks! Considering it is 300+ years old; I feel it is a museum-grade example! This may be one of the finest 17th/18th century examples you may ever see! Truly a well survived piece of Delft history and will be the best addition to your Delftware collection!
