Description: Rare 9ct gold & enamel Scottish sailing prize medal relating to the Clyde Cruising Club and awarded in 1912, within a couple of years of the club's formation in 1909. The front of the medal depicts the Club Burgee featuring the Scottish Saltire & a Thistle on a white ground. Around the edge of the medal is engraved: "CLYDE CRUISING CLUB 1912" The obverse is engraved: "NUMBER 2 LOG COMPETITION SECOND PRIZE. WON BY "NATTEE". PRESENTED BY T.G. HARDIE ESQ" Weight: 8.1 gm. Diameter: 23 mm. Hall Mark: Glasgow Assay Office but Undated. Stamped "9CT" for 9ct gold. Maker's Mark: George Edward & Sons (David & George Edward). Clyde Cruising Club: The club was formed in 1909 on the River Clyde, Glasgow specifically to cater for sailors who preferred cruising. It thrives to this day. The medal for sale is dated 1912 so very early in the club's history.
