Description: anyone that collects NC artifacts, especially grooved axes found in North Carolina, knows that the "three quarter groove" type axe is indeed very scarce to find from this area. this example, undamaged with only some light farm implement scars on 1 side, is in excellent condition & made of local stone, the collectors here call " Trap Rock " which is a local diabase type material. a lot of the local axes & celts were made from this local stone. the bit has a twist in the end, an archaeologist once told me they believe axes found with this unique style cutting bit were used to " de-bark " logs. this axe was found in the early 1900's in Stanly Co. NC as the old writing shows. it was for many yrs in a well known collection in the Piedmont area. the rulers & pictures show the size & condition. it is guaranteed authentic with no modern reworking or restoration. please email with any questions before bidding, as all sales are final because it is guaranteed authentic ! will ship to the 48 states only, NO out of continent shipping.
