Description: Up for bid is an original vintage pre-owned Rare First Edition - FATHER TUCK'S Golden Gift Series "Playtime Stories" No. 5668. Found at a family estate sale. An Extremely Rare First Edition - "Playtime Stories", circa 1910-20. No. 5668 is Father Tuck's Golden Gift Series Board Cover with two girl and a kitten. This book is profusely illustrated. It has either B&W or gorgeous color plate on almost every text page throughout the entire book. This early 1900s antique children's book is in good condition and would be a lovely addition for a collector of Father Tuck's books, a collector of antique children's books, or a collector of antique books in general. "Publishers to Their Majesties, the King and Queen & Her Majesty the Queen Alexandra" Pages: 63 Hardcover: Yes Dustcover: No Measurements: 9.8 x 7.25 x 0.45" BACKGROUND ABOUT PUBLISHER: The publisher, Raphael Tuck & Sons, Co, was the official publisher for the Royal British Monarchy starting in the late 1800s. Due to the prestige of this publisher, they had access to many of the finest writers and illustrators in the Western world. This edition has neither a copyright nor publishing date listed. However, the title page indicates that this book was published for the King and Queen, and Queen Alexandra (1844-1925). This occurred in 1910 when Queen Alexandra became the "Queen Mother". Given the style and images this book was probably published between 1910-1920. This edition is in good vintage condition for it ages. It has paper cover hardboard front and back covers with a color image and writing on front cover and the back cover is white. Some scuffs and wear along the edges and corners. The spine is green color cloth with brown tape covering most of it. The multi-colored print is still vivid and clear on the front. As is common, the top and base of the spine are slightly tattered. The spine is tight and pages are firmly attached. Pages are tanned with aged and show foxing. There is a name inside the frontispiece. I found two page tears on page 60 and 61 and the very blank back is mostly gone. No markings, writing or creases on any other pages in the book.
