Description: The time has come for me to downsize my vintage barware collection, and why not start off with a once in a lifetime set. This “Down Memory Lane With” set of 8 footed rocks glasses is dated 1959, which would be the 25th anniversary of the first Academy Award given for best song. The set is marked "© 1959, Jack Nadel Inc., Los Angeles”. I learned from Nadel Intl., that the Academy Awards was one of their clients back in the 1950s (and still is now) and the glasses would have been a promotional item for the Awards. The glasses are 5” tall. There are 7 glasses of composers, who were winners or nominees for the Academy Award for Best Song, and the glasses list some of the composers most well-known songs. The 8th glass lists the Academy Award Winning Songs from 1937-1958. This set ticks off so many boxes for a collector – mid-century modern glassesmovie musical buffsOld HollywoodBroadway lovers The overall condition is excellent except there is slight gold loss on two glasses and, here’s the biggie, there’s a broken base on one glass, which was that way when I bought the set (but it doesn’t affect the integrity of the glass as it stands). Please see pics for the aforementioned issues. I’ve never used the set; it’s been in a display cabinet. List of 7 Composers: Harry Warren – songs from 1930-1943. Multiple nominations and winner in: 1935 for "Lullaby of Broadway" from Gold Diggers of 1935; 1943 for "You'll Never Know" from Hello, Frisco, Hello; and 1946 for "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe” for The Harvey Girls. Richard Rodgers – songs from 1927-1951. Winner in 1945 for "It Might As Well Be Spring" from State Fair. George Gershwin – songs from 1919-1938. Nominated in 1937 for "They Can't Take That Away from Me" from Shall We Dance. Cole Porter – songs from 1927-1953. Nominated in: 1936 for "I've Got You Under My Skin" from Born to Dance; 1941 for "Since I Kissed My Baby Goodbye" from You'll Never Get Rich; 1943 for "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To" from Something to Shout About; and 1956 for "True Love" from High Society. Jerome Kern -- songs from 1913-1944. Multiple nominations and winner in 1941 for "The Last Time I Saw Paris” from Lady Be Good. This glass has slight gold loss on one border (see pic). Harold Arlen – songs from 1930-1949. Multiple nominations and winner in 1939 for “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz. This glass has slight gold loss on one treble clef (see pic). Irving Berlin – songs from 1911-1950. Multiple nominations and winner in 1943 for "White Christmas" from Holiday Inn.This glass has a broken base (see pic). The 8th glass lists the composer and lyricist for the Award-winning song from 1937 through 1958. I’ve never seen another complete set of these glasses. I’ll do my best to answer questions. Please be sure to check out my other vintage barware sets. Thanks so much.
