Description: The Sword has a wire wrapped leather handle(most of the leather is missing) with oval badge “UR and Lily” cross guard with a griffin on either side, in high relief. The reverse has FCB for the Pythian Motto “Friendship, Charity and Benevolence”. The U.R. is for uniformed rank, and the symbol of a full knight. This is an early sword, as they eventually got rid of the uniformed rank. The blade is etched with the former owner’s name “ Chas. Cr. Bowman”. The blade is signed by the maker on the base “Pettibone Brothers Manufacturing Co. Cincinnati, Ohio.” The Sword blade measures approximately 31.75” long, the total length of the Sword measures approximately 39” long. The Sword with scabbard measures approximately 40.5” long. The tip of the sword is slightly bent. There is moderate wear and flaking on the sword blade. Please check photos. For a 144 year old sword I think it is still in ok condition.
