Description: Offered is the rare 1878 hardcover book Railroads their Origin and Problems by Charles Francis Adams. Mr. Adams, besides being and expert on railroads and the President of the Union Pacific Railroad, was a Brigadier General in the Union Army during the Civil War and the grandson of John Quincy Adams. This book is a first edition in vintage acceptable condition. This book continues to be published to this day. This antique first edition would be a wonderful gift idea for any railroad enthusiast. Book has Dartmouth College Library markings; a library label is affixed to the inside front board, library markings are on the spine, a library stamped seal is on the the title page, library reference numbers are on the copyright page and remnants of removed paper labels are on the inside of the back board and back of last end page. A name and “September 1878” are written on the second front end page. It looks as though the same ink was used on page 76 to make a correction to a publishing error. Spine is tight. All pages are intact and easily readable. The cover has heavy wear with rubs on the edges and corners. Look closely at photos to see the condition of this rare first edition book.
