Description: Rare letter written to Reverend Samuel Farmer Jarvis regarding causes for divorce relating to a petition by Mrs. Sarah McCurdy Hart Jarvis for a divorce from her husband made before a committee of the legislature of Connecticut. Reverend Samuel Jarvis was the first historiographer of the Episcopal Church and theological writer of distinction. This letter was written to the Reverend Jarvis by Joshua Beal Ferris who was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives. A book by the title "The Great Divorce Case! ; A full and impartial history of the trial of the petition of Mrs. Sarah M. Jarvis, for a divorce from her husband, the Rev. Samuel F. Jarvis...before a committee of the legislature of the State of Connecticut: comprising the testimony, letters, and depositions, produced on said trial; with a preliminary statement of such parts as are necessary to a clear understanding of the case" was published in 1839. This letter was forwarded to Ralph Isaacs Ingersoll who was a prominent lawyer and politician in Connecticut. The letter is in fine over-all condition with usual fold creases for mailing and has toning and some tannish toned discoloration of the paper from age.
