This 24g rare 36mm oval shaped bright lustrous brass medal is in high collector’s grade, and should be of interest to any collectors of famous French sculptor, medallist and gem-engraver Raymond Gayrard (3 September 1807 – 22 July 1855) who was born in Rodez.Blaise Bou - Benefactor Son of a cloth weaver from Rodez, Blaise Bou, after having been a student of the priest of Saint-Amans, and having completed his apprenticeship as a tailor, left for Paris in the year IX. After a difficult start, he achieved real fame, due to his talents and the fact that all the Aveyron residents of Paris were keen to bring him their customers. He counted Chateaubriand among his clients. Having become rich, Blaise Bou retired to Versailles where he died on November 25, 1846.
