Description: For your consideration is an extremely rare hand wrought pewter plate c. 1630. It is a German Nuremberg pewter relief plate of Ferdinand II (1578-1637) cast in the center medallion depicting the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II Hapsburg. He is on horseback with a legend Ferdinand: II. DC. RO: IM: S: A: At the rim are eleven numbered oval cartouches with eleven other mounted emperors of the house of Hapsburg with their names listed at the top and a given number at the bottom. Between each is a grotesque mask decorated with beautiful repousse designs. Note a similar work as this is exhibited at the British Museum. On the back the artist left his initials J.B.L. and #6374. There also is D. 116G written in red. This perhaps was added later for inventory purposes. The skilled craftsmanship of this pewter piece is astonishing. It measures 7 3/8" across. The condition is amazing for age. There is wear and a few dings, but nothing to distract. Pewter work was reaching it's zenith at this time. Please see photos. A truly rare and historical collectible. SHIPPING TO CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES ONLY
