They flew over the English Channel to Southern Ireland. Over mid Atlantic strong side-winds threatened to push them south of their course. Throughout the darkness hours the fuel consumpion was checked at regular intervals. Weather problems increased on approaching the American continent, but Costes' years of experience, combined with the skill of his navigator and the splendid performance of the Bregeut, brought them safely through. News of their landfall came from St. Pierre Island on the 2nd September and then3.5 hours later, they were again sighted over Nova Scotia. A large crowd was forming at Curtiss Field, New York, as a squadron of fighters escorted the Bregeut over the city to the airfield where they landed, having flown 3,700 miles in 37 hours and 17 minutes - Charles Linbergh was one of the first to greet them.~~~~~~~~~~ We will always combine items for postage with pleasure, to ensure a fair and sensible price.
