Description: Royal Air Force Commemorative Cover From The "JS" Series of Covers CommemoratingThe Invasion of Norway7th April 1940Contains the original information card as shownThis is a limited edition triple signed version of the cover This cover features the additional signature of Lieutenant Commander Frederick Rice DSM~~~~~~~~Cover Signed By:-Lieutenant Commander Frederick Rice DSM 811 / 771 Swordfish Squadron who took part in the Second Battle of Narvik off HMS Warspite For which he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal There is a photocopy sheet with the cover that gives details of his wartime history~~~Air Chief Marshal Sir Kenneth Cross KCB CBE DSO DFC With No.46 Squadron was shipped to Narvick on the 26th May 1940 aboard HMS Glorious. Landed nearby at Bardufoss. On the 7th June the Squadron was ordered to destroy its Hurricanes and return to England, but Cross instead organized the "landing on" of ten Hurricanes and ten Gladiators aboard HMS Glorious off the Norwegian coast. The following day HMS Glorious was sunk by the German Warships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. Only Cross and Flight Lieutenant Jameson of No.46 Squadron survived from the RAF contingent, to be picked up after three days on a raft in Arctic seasand Major R.T. Partridge DSO - Royal MarinesAppointed Officer Commanding No.800 Squadron on 1st April 1940. On the 10th April took off from Hatston in the Orkneys just after 05:00hrs leading his Squadron of Blackburn Skua dive bombers to attack the German Cruiser "Konigsberg" in Bergen Fjord. Konigsberg was sunk by co-ordinated action of No's 800 and 803 Squadrons who returned to Hatston with the loss of one Skua. Major Partridge was accordingly appointed to the Distinguished Service Order on the 7th May 1940 ~~~~~We gladly combine items for postage and post worldwide
