Description: SO HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION: WHAT IS A RADIO SHOW? WHY COLLECT THEM? WHERE DO THEY COME FROM? Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them. Radio Shows are syndicated productions by one of several large and small distributors who supply broadcast product to radio stations normally during weekends when the usual air personalities have a break. Many air on Saturday or Sunday evenings or during overnight segments. They often feature some of the best known voices for their genre from across the country thus the Dick Clark's and Casey Kasem's and Rick Dees and Dick Bartley and so many others. People collect them for various reasons. Some just collect the series because they like it and want them all. Some collect their favorite artists or genre of music. Rather than an album by the artist or a compilation bought at Wal Mart or downloaded through iTunes or wherever, they have a unique presentation of their favorite artist or music not available anywhere else and always with dj presentations which were very entertaining. Some collect interviews with their favorite artists as most shows had interview segments. Believe it or not, some collect commercials especially old car commercials but certainly not limited to only those. AND, these shows are in limited quantity. They were printed just for syndicated stations in the United States and were to be destroyed after broadcast and not sold. Many have just a few still in circulation. Some of the more popular shows may have as many as a few hundred of each week's show that survived but think about it. A few hundred for some 200 million Americans and millions of overseas collectors who look for unique presentations of their favorite artists or form of music is about as rare as rare can be. AND they are increasingly hard to find. They were first distributed on reel to reel tape if the show goes back that far into the 60's, then later on lp, later on CD and even later (after 2000 for most shows) on CDR. Now they are not available at all to collectors since they are distributed by digital download much like you get your music from iTunes. These shows become rarer and rarer every day because the people who buy them hold on to them and the people who sell them, like me, are running out of them. My best contact for these shows is running very low and when he is gone I will be at the mercy of finding a good deal here and there but never from a regular source. The shows that you get now and hold on to will never decrease in value and only increase. Even during the recession which is hopefully ending, the value of shows did not diminish much. The number bought diminished because people were afraid to spend their money and who blames them. But the prices did not decrease much and again are on the increase. I have prided myself since the start to provide the best and fairest cost with a no holds barred guarantee that you will be happy or I refund your money. I sell them for near what I bought them for. I give volume discounts and discount postage always. As the postal service increases their rates, my shipping rates over the years has decreased. And, I have one of the biggest radio show libraries in the world consisting of many thousands of shows, so many that I don't even know all that I have and am sometimes amazed when I go to look for one show and find another that I did not realize I had. Finally, it is Americana at its best. Whether the show be from the 60's or 2000's, rock, countdown, oldies, country, classical, religious, jazz or big band, it is unique and home grown. And you just can't find them anywhere. Even record stores that still exist will rarely have any. Radio shows are wonderful representations of the real golden age of radio at least music wise. And every one you buy is an original, not a copy, not a remake - all are limited editions in the hundreds at most and most much less. Once you get hooked, like me, it is a love affair for life! Welcome to the Club! Picture yourself back in the late 50's or 60's, even the 70's. You were glued to your transistor radio listening to the top 40 presented by your local radio station. You had that radio glued to your ear or connected with the little earphone jack that immediately broke. Your local dj was great. He knew the music. He had the gift of talking which rarely occurs anymore. You loved the presentation of the music as much as the sounds. You liked the station jingles. And on weekends when the local dj's had off, you listened to either taped shows they did during the week to be played on the weekend or a syndicated radio show featuring one of the greats. It was the golden age of rock. Music was king and the dj's were just as popular. You can relive those days whether you grew up then or just wish you had on only a handful of oldies shows. THIS IS ONE OF THEM. Most of you who know me, collectors who have dealt with me over the years, know that my favorite series of all time is this, Solid Gold Scrapbook. One of the things this oldies radio show series did best was its specialty theme shows. Billing itself as the "Pop Music Almanac", Solid Gold Scrapbook prided itself in being the definitive oldies show on the radio. For a hour each day, five hours a week, for over 8 years, show hosts brought the best of music, interviews and information. This show is a great example. Called "ROCKIN THROUGH THE DAYS OF THE WEEK!" the show brings you the most that you could ever hope for. Just think, on a one hour show you will hear 12 classic tunes from the early rock era, all GREAT HITS FROM ARTISTS WHO TITLED THEIR SONGS AFTER DAYS OF THE WEEK LIKE MONDAY MONDAY, TUESDAY AFTERNOON, ANOTHER SATURDAY NIGHT, PLEASANT VALLEY SUNDAY AND MORE MORE MORE. IT IS AN AMAZING TRIBUTE SHOW! THIS HOUR WILL ENTHRALL YOU AND ENTERTAIN YOU EVERY TIME YOU PUT IT ON YOUR TURNTABLE IT IS ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL SHOWS AND IT CAN BE YOURS IN YOUR COLLECTION. It is a testimony to the early rock era and you can enjoy it over and over again as your own oldies show. These are the real oldies! And they can be yours - music, interviews, and all the expertise of show host Dick Bartley and his fellow dj hosts, all experts on rock music. You will love this show. What a show! It is a great variety of music along with interviews and fun facts. How can you beat that!!!!!! You will super great tunes and the best part is that you can hear them again and again, over and over, whenever you want. Over and over and over and over again, to quote a famous lyric! It is the best theme for an oldies show ever made and Dick Bartley and his crew were masters at it. Whether through him when he hosted the show or through his dj’s who came after him, you will enjoy the great production values of this series from beginning to end through over 1000 different shows over 7 years. You enjoy their expertise on this show and every show made through their devotion to the best music of all time. This is one great hour in music and the best of all, it is vinyl and virgin vinyl at that probably played only the day it aired. After that the stations were to destroy them or return them to United Stations. Well, believe it or not, these shows all came from the United Stations executive to whom they were sent back. And, guess what, he did not destroy them but indexed them by date and stored them for all these years until he decided to sell and I got them. I have almost the whole collection and I am selling most of them to finance my son’s college education now that all my retirement funds have tanked out. (of course the market is better now but I spent so much so far that it does not really help me a lot.) You have a unique opportunity to get some of the best shows ever made. This series is the best oldies that ever aired on American radio. You will just not hear most of these songs on any other show. All the artists featured in this series helped define rock music through their work You will hear not only great tunes. but also interviews and stories about the artists and their music that you have never heard before. Great tunes will all come your way in this great one hour show with the unique themes that made the show the most popular oldies show ever to be on syndication. The soundtrack of our lives were shaped by this music and you will reminisce thinking of those people, events and where you were in your life. This is all featured on this great hour of music, commentary, stories and interviews. This theme and all the themes on this great show were amazingly well done and have never been equaled. Even Dick Bartley's update of this show, American Gold, does not have the huge variety of themes that this series had. It was something only Solid Gold Scrapbook did and these shows are masterpieces. They belong in your collection! The one hour show is on one stereo lp album and aired on the United Stations Radio Network on NOVEMBER 16, 1990. The lp is in excellent, new, pristine condition. It is a quite attractive lp considering it was supposed to be played once and destroyed. It has a cream background label with Solid Gold Scrapbook logo across the top and on the bottom of the label the United Stations logo, in brown. It is a very attractive label. Also on the lp is the date of the show. The cue sheet comes with this show and is also in excellent condition. The show was only played once, the day it aired, to the best of my knowledge since they were sent back to the distributor after airing. In fact it may not have been played at all since many stations received two copies and only played one. They had to be certified to United Stations that they were destroyed after airing or sent back to United Stations, so these shows are all very rare. I recently found out that they are even rarer than I thought. The stereo lp version of the show was only sent to the top 175 Metro markets. Smaller markets had to take the satellite feed. So at the very most there were only 175 copies of each show EVER. How do you compute rareness. 175 copies for the whole United States market and 23 years ago means that there might not be ANY more of these shows and at the very most there are 175 . How many survived as did the ones I have is anyone's guess. This show was hosted by famous oldies dj DAVE CHARITY. Dick Bartley was the originator of the whole series and its host for most of the seven years it was in syndication. There were two other hosts in the series, Mr. Music, Norm N. Nite who was one of the major influences in the origination of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a long time dj at WCBS-FM in New York before it flipped to "Jack" music a couple of years ago (it's now back and bigger than before but without Mr. Music), and, for the last two years of the show, Dave Charity. All were great dj's in the style of the dj's we were used to hearing and who you don't hear anymore especially if you do not have an oldies station anymore as most of you do not as the oldies demographic becomes less and less in favor with money grubbing station owners. Please note that you will see these shows bunched in weekly groups and sold that way. However, in that case you have to buy all five shows that aired that week just to get the one you want. For almost 10 years I have sold them individually to collectors so that they can get the music they want and only the music they want. In fact, any of you who had to buy the weekly box to get the show you wanted, I will buy the unwanted shows from you for the prorated price per show and make them available to other collectors who might want them. There is nothing worse than a record you don't need or want. When you buy only the show you want, you and I are both happy! This show features 12 tunes in a massive tribute to ARTISTS WHO NAMED THEIR HITS AFTER DAYS OF THE WEEK ALONG WITH FIVE INTERVIEWS WITH JOHN PHILLIPS OF THE MAMAS AND PAPAS, JUSTIN HAYWARD OF THE MOODY BLUES JAMES PANKOW OF CHICAGO ELTON JOHN AND RICHARD CARPENTER and all presented in the unique Solid Gold Scrapbook format and in pure vinyl looking like the day it was pressed with a much better quality sound than CD's. Here are your tunes! Eight Days A Week - Beatles Monday Monday - Mamas and papas Ruby Tuesday - Rolling Stones Another Day - Paul McCartney Tuesday Afternoon - Moody Blues Another Saturday Night - Sam Cooke Saturday In The Park - Cicago Saturday Night At The Movies - Drifters Sunday Will Never Be The Same - Spanky and Our Gang Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting - Elton John Pleasant Valley Sunday - Monkees and Rainy Days and Mondays - Carpenters WOW!!! What a great show!!! Remember, when you buy this show, not only will you own the tunes but also interspersed between songs is fascinating commentary on the artists and songs that only Dick Bartley and the gang can provide. Also, keep in mind that this and all the oldies shows are not just about the music - the music can be found anywhere. It is the mixture of great music and great announcing that makes it so entertaining. As well, it is a piece of radio history. You just aren't going to find these shows anymore. Think of what they will be worth in a few years! (IF you wanted to sell.) I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price; in fact, believe it or not, I paid a lot more than you will because I tried to get the entire collection of this syndicated show. I almost made it but then the sources dried up. The dj from whom I bought the ones I had left the station, and subsequent ones I bought were hit or miss in terms of what I had or did not have. I finally gave up. I am saving those shows I treasure the most and sharing the rest with you for very reasonable prices. Those I do not sell, I will just keep! Most people even enjoy the national commercials that are included on the show because some 15-20 years later they sound good! Included on this show are Trident Gum Hooked On Phonics K Mart Rubbermaid Hershey's Almond Joy and more. You can see by these commercials that the show attracted a great demographic as all these commercials are for fun products. Some people buy the shows for the commercials they collect! Either way, it is a great show and would be a valuable addition to your collection. As always, I charge only shipping on the first show you buy for U.S. buyers and discount the shipping for my international friends, so the more you buy the more money you will save. Good Luck and God Bless You.
