You will also need to purchase Programming software that only runs on Windows to program your scanner.Being able to program your scanner using a spreadsheet style of user interface, albeit sometimes a bit primitive, can make your life so much easier. With the right software you can download frequency data from the internet to your computer and then download into your scanner using this cable. You can also enter your frequency data manually. Download subscriptions are really critical to making the programming process easy. I recommend you get trial version of the programming software before you buy and make sure it supports downloading public frequencies from the Internet.
