Description: r R Dhearil (Our Wreched Era). By Mirtn Direin. 1962. Irish Poetry. 45 pages. Per wikipedia: Mirtn Direin was an Irish poet from the Aran Islands Gaeltacht. Along with Sen Rordin and Mire Mhac an tSaoi, Direin was, in the words of Louis de Paor, "one of a trinity of poets who revolutionised Irish language poetry in the 1940s and 50s." From a Frank Sewell interview at Wake Forest University - Direin was, as they say, a man of his time and also of his place (mid-twentieth-century, rural, Catholic Ireland) and he did not escape some of the then current attitudes: for example, the apparent, T. S. Eliot-like disdain at a lovely lady stooping to folly, etc. We see this in Direins important poem r R Dhearil (Our Wretched Era), in which the poet takes (in places) a rather high tone and judgmental attitude towards some women or types of behavior. This rare vintage book is a must for any collector of Irish poetry. See photos for condition.
