Cover, Johnsville, OH* Billhead Jason Jerome Cover (1823 - 1893) At age 17, worked long hours as a clerk for the firm of Creigh & Shauck, then for J.T. Creigh for nine years before being taken in as a partner at D.M. & J.T. Creigh, where he remained for 5 years before opening his own general store in Johnsville, OH. Over the 1850’s-60’s, Cover hired many young clerks, such as Samuel Wagner, who would later go on and start their own successful businesses both in town and elsewhere. Jason would make it a point to travel often to New York City about once every 6 months to purchase supplies for his store - some 39 times by one account. On one of his trips in 1861, he bought a very large amount of goods, and it took nearly 3 years to sell it all. The billhead in this listing is part of the small number of items that remains from his store in Johnsville. On sturdy paper stock. Showing minor signs of wear and handling consistent with its age. Expected fold creases from posting. No major issues to note. Eye-catching mixed header typefaces / fonts and copious legible hand written list of goods purchased. Mostly very clean throughout.
