This is new rubber and will flex if the pole is bent over for some reason. Your older ones that are stiff may break if accidentally bent over. That is what happened to me. So, if yours has disappeared over the years, or has become stiff, this is what you need. This is a replacement part, not original. Please compare the new one to the original in my pictures. Keep in mind my original has stretched and cracked over the 50+ years of it's life. I would recommend using some talcum powder or baby powder on the flag shaft and the jeep nipple while inserting.
