Description: 800x600 2379 Pyrite is a common mineral that combines the minerals iron and sulfur to produce gold-like crystals. It was not uncommon for early miners to mistake this heavy mineral for real gold. Pyrite comes in a cubic form, an octahedral form, but most commonly as pyritohedrons (a combination of both cubic and octahedral). Pyrite can be found in almost every state, and many people find it mixed with their driveway crushed stone. Peru probably produces the nicest and most abundant pyrite crystals and clusters. This beautiful and perfect pyrite cluster is from Quirivilca Mine in Peru. This cluster is made up of modified cubes with the largest crystal 1/4 to 1 inch. The specimen is bright, shiny, and has striated surfaces that are common with pyrite. It has a nice golden pyrite luster. The specimen is made up of 2 layers pyrite which are cemented to layers of quartz. There is a hole between the thin layers. The specimen is a floater and shows no point of attachment. You can see a crack in the photos but specimen is well cemented with quartz. This specimen displays very well. The specimen weighs 4.35 ounces (123 grams). The size is 3 1/2 inches long, 2 inches wide, and about 1 inch thick. Note: I am 100% positive for over 7 years. Read my reviews.
