Description: Up for auction is a strong PSA 8 JESSE OWENS OGDENS #3 CHAMPIONS OF SPORT 1936 ICONIC OLYMPICS TRUE ROOKIE CARD RISING VALUE, YET STILL INCREDIBLY UNDERVALUED! My last PSA 8 sold last year for $12,500. THE JESSE OWENS *TRUE* ROOKIE CARD The 1936/37 Ogdens #3 Jesse Owens is the FIRST EVER Owens card produced in English and as a typical "trading card". This is NOT a flimsy "photo card". This was produced for the sole purpose of being a trading card, and NOT a thin stocked, photo "card" that was meant to be placed in a photo album. Prior to PSA labeling this as a 1937 card, SGC (previously known for their vintage graded cards) and BGS always encapsulated it as a 1936 card. In any case, this is still Jesse Owen's TRUE Rookie Card. I consider this to be like the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle Rookie Card - an ICONIC Rookie! Mantle's Topps RC is substantially more valuable than his 1951 Bowman. GREAT INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY You have a chance to own one of the Most Underrated Rookie Cards of All-Time! Jesse Owens is a historical legend! He is an inaugural member of U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame and the 1936 Ogdens #3 sports card is arguably the most sought-after - and iconic - early Owens collectible. This is a much sought-after remembrance of the famed Olympian, in near mint or better condition. This is a beautiful Vibrant and near Mint & Centered PSA 8 Jesse Owens Original 1936 Ogden's Champions of 1936 ROOKIE Card #3. The photos do NOT do justice for this card. THE HISTORICAL LEGEND "According to ESPN’s SPORT CENTURY rankings, Owens is ranked as the 6th Greatest Athlete the World has ever seen (in the 20th century) behind only Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, and Wayne Gretzky!" This card is Owen's True ROOKIE card! Everything else around this time frame were foreign thin paper "photo cards" to be glued into an album. The Ogdens were produced to be collected as the typical TRADING CARDS for the day. Big difference in my opinion. This card is centered 50/50 on the front with vibrant colors and four near mint or better corners. Card measures approx. 1.5 inches x 2.75 inches and features the most iconic image of Jesse Owens. This was the earliest Jesse Owens tobacco sized card issued in color and in English. It is by far his most iconic Rookie Card! Most of these cards would grade between a 5 or 6. Anything above that is an absolute miracle. Most UK sellers list these ungraded as "Superb or Excellent", however they'd grade a 5 or 6. Very different grading metrics. I believe this card has tremendous value and could easily be worth 5x-10x in value than my asking price over the next decade. All this card needs is some more awareness. The 1936 Ogdens Champions of 1936 were produced in very limited quantities. Most have been destroyed since they were issued in Ogdens Cigarette packs. Most cigarette companies during this time offered black and white tobacco cards in their packets as the use of color was much more expensive. For this reason, Ogdens produced a very limited quantity of this set! OWENS & JOE LOUIS & JACKIE ROBINSON I found the following Paragraphs extremely interesting from an ESPN article: "Anyone who does their homework can plainly see, Babe Ruth was the most famous and popular and important sports figure of any kind that ever lived. The only sports figures that you could allow into the conversation for the purpose of argument are Jesse Owens, Joe Louis, Jackie Robinson and Muhammad Ali. Owens' performance in the 1936 Berlin Olympics is the single greatest sports performance ever. There will never be another Hitler, another Holocaust, another Third Reich, another World War II, or another 1936 Berlin. No athlete can possibly match Owens' performance. During the same era, Joe Louis made it equally clear that black athletes are deserving of their place alongside white athletes by holding the heavyweight championship for twelve years! Owens and Louis paved the road that Robinson and Ali traveled to the top of the athletic world. The importance of those four other men is well chronicled and widely known." Check recent Sports Cards valuations and you'll see why this could easily be multiples higher. The 100th Anniversary of the Legendary 1936 Olympics will be here before you know it, and Jesse Owens memorabilia is going to sky-rocket. This is a MUST HAVE for your Rookie Card collection ! I STRONGLY RECOMMEND WATCHING THE MOVIE “RACE” which is based off his life. Also recommend watching “MORE THAN GOLD”, the documentary released by NBC on his life and the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Good luck and if you have any questions at all, please feel free to e-mail me. Please submit your offers or take advantage of the buy it now.
