While the Custom 24, McCarty 594 and the like get everyone's attention (and rightfully so!) we'd love to show you one of the more unsung heroes in the Core lineup - the Studio. While similar in layout to the Special Semi-Hollow or the old Custom 22 with its 22 frets and PRS Tremolo, this one holds a unique place in the lineup with its 3-pickup H-S-S pickup configuration akin to a "Superstrat"-style guitar. This is a very unique configuration, especially for a mahogany-bodied, set-neck instrument. The pickups themselves are just amazing. The Narrowfield pickups sound so unlike anything else - a friend of ours who's a professional guitarist out in Nashville and uses one of these as his main live axe every night describes the Narrowfield humbucker as a "single-coil with a clean boost pedal always on." We can't help but agree with him. It's bright, clear, and throaty like a single-coil but with the punch, roundness, and hum-free operation of a humbucker - PRS really nailed it with these pickups. With the 5-way selector switch and push-pull coil split, you have the same switching configuration as an S-type guitar along with the ability to combine the neck and bridge like a typical PRS. It's fantastic! Also new for 2024, the Phase III tuners have been refreshed with newly-designed "Wing" buttons for nicer cohesion with the bird motif, as well as less weight on the headstock for increased sustain and resonance. There's a very real thing that can happen when you pick up a guitar that is just so inspiring that it makes you a better player by not only being easier to play, but also by giving you more motivation to pick it up and play it every chance you get. The PRS Core Studio is one of those instruments. Details The PRS Studio model is a modern take on a traditional single-single-hum guitar. With PRS’s proprietary Narrowfield pickups in the middle and bass positions and a 58/15 LT humbucking treble pickup, the PRS Studio offers punchy singlecoils, vintage scooped tones, and the chunky kick of a treble humbucker screaming in one instrument. This whole new scope of sounds (that are only possible with a three-pickup guitar) are easily accessible in the Studio model thanks to the push/pull tone control and 5-way blade switch. With seven combinations in all, the PRS Studio covers classic tones but maintains a unique voice making it a perfect “desert island” guitar. For 2024, PRS Guitars is updating the tuning machines on many of our Core guitars. While, aesthetically, our new Wing buttons are designed to echo the 12th fret bird wingspan design, they were first and foremost designed for tonal reasons all the way back in 1982. Because these buttons are lighter weight than their metal predecessors, they are subtracting less energy from the vibrating strings, thus helping the guitar ring longer and at a more musical note. PRS Patented Tremolo, Gen III Meticulous design delivering sonic fidelity, player ergonomics, and revolutionary tuning stability. PRS Phase III Locking Tuners with Wing Buttons Modern locking technology with vintage elegance, these lightweight tuners promote tone transfer for a louder, more resonant instrument. PRS 58/15 LT Pickups “Low turn” pickups with vintage warm, clear tone.
