PLEASE READ ALL NOTES BELOW BEFORE PURCHASING CAUTION: This gear must be installed with appropriate tools to squarely keep the driver axles perpendicular to the gear when pressing the gear onto the axles. The gear has a tight, interference press fit onto the axles to maintain quartering and prevent damage to the driver linkages and the other driver's axle couplers. Damage to the gear can occur if not installed properly. It is recommended that the Quartering Jig Tool, item 374938262471, be purchased as well if the buyer does not have appropriate tooling. A kit is available with both the gear and the Quartering Jig Tool, item 374938264791. This gear has 16 teeth. This WILL NOT work in the Lifelike Proto 2000 Heritage Steam Collection 0-8-0 and most likely WILL NOT work in the 0-6-0 but this has not been confirmed. This is a drive axle spur gear to replace the original gear that often cracked in the original model. This gear has the correct nominal inner bore diameter to fit on a 2.5mm driver axle. It is press fit directly on the driver stub shafts. However, there may have been different production runs when the locomotives were manufactured. Your axle diameter may be different than the nominal 2.5mm. The gear is finished with a #43 (0.089", ~2.3mm) drill bit to clear the bore before shipping. One buyer used a #42 (.0935", ~2.4mm) drill to further increase the hub bore ID before installing it in their Berkshire and had a successful installation "The Berk now runs like new". The buyer's driver stub shaft diameter should be measured with a caliper to determine if the bore diameter should be increased. But not too much, there needs to be a tight interference fit of the gear onto the driver axle. Also, do not use a power drill, secure the drill bit in a vice or other means and turn the gear with your fingers to drill the bore out further. Since its plastic, it should drill out easily. The Drivers should be "quartered" to prevent damage to the other driven wheel axle couplers. Axle couplers are also available, item 374938261582, as they often cracked in the original model as well. Also available, Full ship set, One (1) Spur Gear and Three (3) Axle Couplers, item 374938265934 All Drivers and driven wheels must be "quartered" identically to prevent damage to the spur gear or axle couplers. A Quartering Jig Tool is also available, item 374938262471, so that all driven wheels can all be quartered accurately and identically.
