Released in '71, it has a full, wrap-around wood cabinet and impressive multi-colored display!The SA-500 can provide reverberation effects to all the program sources set up on your existing stereo control amplifier, including the playback from, recording to a tape deck, and tape-to-tape reprinting between two tape decks. The continuously controllable reverberation time, multicolored reverberation indicator and other new ideas have been engineered into the RA-500.The rear panel has the main Input & Output RCA jacks, two Tape Loops, two unswitched AC outlets, and a power fuse. The RA-500 also has a voltage adjustment under the nameplate for foreign use. It weighs just over 11 lbs and measures 11-7/8" x 6-3/8" x 10-1/2" deep. Condition:This rare amp is in "Very Good" condition with minor signs of use and a nice, clean front panel! Aside from a few light scuffs to the top, the only other thing worth mentioning is just a few minor front panel scuffs that are too faint to make out well in the pics. All the original knobs are present and complete as is the attached AC cord. The original felt pads on the base were worn so we installed the new rubber pads seen in the pics. The manual has gone missing, but no worries it's available online or we will send you the PDF file directly on request! The pictured new audio cable is included! Please inspect the pictures thoroughly for actual condition. Service:On inspection, this unit was working, just some scratchy or inconsistent controls, so it went to our tech for service. First, Sansui used certain transistors throughout this model that have known issues after 40 years. So, whether or not they are still working, our tech insists on replacing these transistors as they will assuredly fail some time in the near future. A total of 9 transistors were upgraded to brand new Onsemi parts, never any used or NOS components! We also found that the felt pads inside the reverb tanks in all of these Sansui reverb amps deteriorate over the years and require replacement. This is important as they are designed to protect the fragile metal springs, especially during transit. So if not done, the springs could arrive to you damaged or broken. It's this kind of thoughtful, preventative servicing that makes it smart to buy from a company with an experienced, in-house technician!While some of the lamps were still working, as they were most likely going to fail soon all the lamps were replaced with long-life LED's, including the power indicator! White LED's were used that replicate the original incandescents nicely. All switches & pots were cleaned internally with Specialist Contact Cleaner (proven superior to DeoxIT by our customers), while those with special needs receive the less aggressive DeoxIT F-5. While open, all electrolytic caps were inspected for bulging or leakage and all PC boards were inspected with all questionable solder joints re-flowed. Testing:We set this up on our test bench and it passed with flying colors! It powered right up, producing a clear, distortion-free audio from both channels with no hum or buzz! The reverb feature was confirmed working and adjusts smoothly with the front display changing accordingly. All the rest of the controls were confirmed operational with no noise and all inputs and outputs have been confirmed working. Further testing was performed, if there is a particular function you would like to know more about just let us know before buying. What a great find on a quality piece of vintage equipment!
