Description: Postcard, 3-9/16 x 5-1/2 in. Piet Mondrian (Dutch, 1872-1944). Horizontal Tree. Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute, Utica, New York.Unused. MINT.Publisher: Arthur Jaffe Heliochrome Co., New York.Note: This is a modern COLLOTYPE reprint of an original collotype card. It is produced under license by Collotype Prints of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Collotype is a dichromate-based photographic process invented by Alphonse Poitevin in 1856 and used for large volume mechanical printing before the existence of cheaper offset lithography. It can produce results difficult to distinguish from metal-based photographic prints because of its microscopically fine reticulations which comprise the image. Many old postcards are collotypes. While no longer a commercial process, its possibilities for fine art photography were first employed in the United States by Alfred Stieglitz.About Shipping and Handling: All postcards are enclosed in protective sleeves+. Postcards are mailed First Class with cardstock or heavier weight paper protecting both sides of the card. I am happy to combine shipping if you buy more than one item from me.
