Description: Kent Bellows (1949 - 2005) was an acclaimed American artist famous for his hyper-realistic graphite drawings, most often of people. His work has been acquired by museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Toledo Museum of Art and the Joslyn Art Museum. Warren Buffett and his wife, Susie, were early supporters of Bellows, who lived in Omaha as they did at the time. Early in his career, Bellows supported himself by doing illustrations for magazines like Omni and Rolling Stone. This work was more playful and fantastic than the serious work hanging in museums. This illustration is from that earlier period, and reflects Bellows' interest in European Masters and also with the fantastic. Dadd was noted for his depictions of fairies and other supernatural subjects, rendered with obsessively minuscule detail. Most of the works for which Dadd is noted were created while he was a patient in mental institutions where he spent most of his adult life. This drawing measures 8" by 10.5". It is professionally framed. The paper was folded by Bellows, but the crease does not detract from the work.
