This Portmeirion Pomona line of dinnerware decorated with Fruit and Floral motifs was a successor to their popular Botanic Garden line of dinnerware. This Platter, made in England, features the blossoms and fruit of Grimwood's "Royal George" Peach. Designed by Susan Williams Ellis in 1982, with the colorful portrayal of the Royal George Peach taken from the 1818 edition of the "Pomona Britannica". The backstamp identifies the Portmeirion Pomona Line, which has since been discontinued. This Turkey Platter is Oven and Dishwasher safe. The Pomona dinnerware line was named after the Greek Goddess of Fruit (Pomona), and all pieces were decorated with various types of fruit. The Royal George Peach was named by the Kensington nurseryman, Grimwood, for King George III of England; he raised the variety from the French Mignonne Peach, but renamed it to honor the English King, who reigned from 1760 to 1820.
