Portieux Vallerysthal France Satin Dauphin (Argonaut) Candy Butter LidDish Bowl

Description: This wonderful piece is a French turn-of-the-century covered candy/butter (beurrier) dish made by Portieux Glass and introduced in 1907. The pattern is known as Dauphins (Argonaut) model#3828 and features a shell and dolphin / dragon motif with a shell finial and three dolphin / dragon feet. The Dauphins pattern was produced by Portieux Glass and later by Portieux Vallerysthal (PV). These items were made in transparent colors, including crystal/clear glass and a variety of opaque colors. In the 1950s and 1960s, Westmoreland Glass reproduced the Argonaut pattern (sometimes referred to as Dolphin and Shell) in very similar, less precise details in transparent and opaque colors. Westmoreland items were usually issued with a Westmoreland label or the Westmoreland trademark. This creates some identification problems between older Portieux/Vallerysthal pieces and the reproduced Westmoreland pieces. Offered here is a genuine Portieux Dauphins candy/butter (beurrier) dish marked Portieux in the center of the bowl. It measures about 5 high (including the lid) and 5 in diameter. The condition is great conmesurate with its age. On the inside bowl rim is asmall nick (not quickly noticeable. I will include a picture for you to see close up at the end of the pictures attached. I noticed a manufacturers bubbled line on the inside of the lid hardly visible while standingin its closed position. This is a very scarce original item in crystal and a beautiful piece to display among your other pattern glass treasures. See attached pictures and video.
