Description: One of the most vital and essential routes in the U.S. air mail network, the Contract Air Mail Route 25 inaugural linked Contract Air Mail Routes 19, 23, and 30 at Atlanta with a direct connection to the Foreign Air Mail Route office at Miami, expediting dispatch of U.S. mails via various Contract Air Mail routes to Central and Latin American countries.The Jacksonville Municipal Airport was dedicated on the date of the inaugural service. Initial service along this 754-mile route was one daily trip each way, except Mondays and days after holidays – southbound; Sundays and holidays – northbound.This cover was carried on the December 1, 1928 inaugural Contract Air Mail Route 25 flight from Jacksonville, Florida to Miami, Florida (where it was backstamped) and is listed in the Contract Air Mail Flights (CAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as 25S2.Pitcairn Aviation sold its airline and air mail contracts (Contract Air Mail Routes 19 and 25) in order to concentrate on aircraft manufacturing in early 1929. The airline changed ownership twice, and on January 17, 1930 the surviving airline’s name was changed to Eastern Air Transport, Incorporated.
