These little plants pop up all over the garden beds after tilling every year. Pineapple Ground Cherries will grow though the whole summer without wilting from heat or drought. The plant will form an 'umbrella' like structure and requires no support. Tiny yellow flowers tucked underneath will make way for many little berries to form. The fruit starts shortly after and before we knew it, we had more berries than we could pick! The fruit is wrapped in a natural wrapper that is pinched back to reveal a beautify protected berry. There is always a bowl full of Ground Cherries in the kitchen during the summertime. We snack on them like candy! They taste absolutely amazing! It has a tropical/pineapple like flavor! You will wonder why you haven't been eating these your whole life!! Make sure to not eat them green, it will upset your stomach. Once the berries are golden in color they are ready to eat!
