SINCE 2004 THERE HAS BEEN AN EXTENSIVE CAMPAIGN WEST ON TRACK TO REOPEN THE LINE AND ITS ROUTE AND STRUCTURES HAVE BEEN PRESERVED. IT IS NOW GOVERNMENT POLICY TO REOPEN THE ROUTE AND IT IS HOPED TO HAVE TRAINS RUNNING ALONG THE TUAM TO ATHENRY SECTION BY 2011.
