Contains 222 black and white or sepia-toned gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1.5" x 2" and 3.5" x 5", with captions mostly on the verso. Very good with rubbing, edgewear, and small tears with near fine photographs.A photo album kept by a soldier during the Korean War beginning with his training at Fort Dix, New Jersey with G Company 273rd Infantry Regiment. These photos show the men posed around the barracks in uniform with equipment including a large hammer. There's a group of men at the barracks with their names written on the verso along with where they were being shipping to which included Japan and Germany. The soldier landed in Japan where he worked at the ETA Jima Specialist School. One photo from this time reads, "ETS Jima Specialist School 31 Aug 54 - Picture taken by a Japanese fellow working in cleaners. He told us his hobby was photography but the way he cut me out; I have my doubts." Another photo of the Academy Club reads, "entrance to club where many hundreds of games of ping-pong and pool were played while on 3 weeks of R&R."After Japan he spent some time in Korea where, when he wasn't studying or working with the Army, he was participating in baseball and football games. There are also photos of the soldier and his colleagues working in an Army base office along with some local girls. He was then sent back to Japan and explored the gardens of Tokyo during some time off. One photo of a shop in Hiroshima reads "Atomic Bomb Victim No. 1 - Victim No. I makes his living from this little shop sells stones, etc." Photos includes local people, temples, the barracks, and the landscape. One photo of a Japanese toddler which is captioned, "babysan!" Laid in are a stack of loose photographs which include photos of football games, Korea, Japan, and Suffield Academy, the Connecticut prep school from where he graduated in 1952.An interesting collection of Korean War-era photography taken by a soldier during his tour of duty.
