Northrup, "Aviation History 1903-1960", signed in ink by Farnsworth on front cover. This was probably his personal copy, since he was not an author of piece and included no inscription. American inventor and television pioneer Philo Taylor Farnsworth (1906-1971) invented the video camera tube, the first all-electronic scanning system. In 1928 and 1929, he made public demonstrations of a crude but working television system. After working with RCA and Philco, Farnsworth started his own company in 1938, continuing to improve TV capabilities while fighting continuous legal battles over patents and royalties. Not content with television, Farnsworth invented many other devices, including a milk sterilizer, a fog-penetrating beam for ships and aircraft, a defense early warning system, an infrared telescope and a nuclear fusion device, the Farnsworth-Hirsch Fusor.
