Description: Philco T-69WHG AM Radio 1964 Serviced Works Excellent Vintage VTG Made in Japan for Philco, this AM transistor radio was manufactured by Toshiba in 1964. It came to me working quite well. It did have a small problem. When tuning a powerful station, it would squeal. That is a symptom of a failing capacitor in the AFC circuit. Also, tuning the radio, sensitivity was diminished. I replaced all four capacitors which restored the radio to full performance. The squeal is gone. Please see my photos. Reassembling the radio, there were some issues that needed to be addressed. The bar antenna was sliding back and fourth in its holders. Its adhesive had failed. I re-bonded the bar. Perhaps the adhesive failed because the foam that keeps the battery from rattling around had became hard as a rock and the battery would pound on the bar antenna? I replaced the foam. Looks: It looks good. The cabinet has no chips or cracks. It’s reflective. It is used, so there are some tiny scuffs and scratches that shows use. You really need to look hard to see them. Please see my photos. (After uploading the images, the light scuffing I am trying to describe does not show in the photos no matter how I angle the camera. They are barely there, and you need to really look). The gold chrome is intact, reflective, and looks good. However it too has some tiny scratches showing use. Ditto for the dial glass. It’s transparent, but has a very tiny nick in it. The battery slot, which opens easy with a flick of my thumbnail, shows careless application of a screwdriver. Performance: It’s loud. Volume control goes smoothly from totally silent to overload loud. It’s sensitive. I easily tuned straight to the weak stations I use to check if a radio is working correctly. It is. “Sideways” radios such as this have a ferrite bar antenna that is much longer than the typical pocket radio, and they always are more sensitive. I usually service the vintage radios I sell on eBay. If someone buys a radio from me, I want it to work like it did when new. Serviced = I clean the volume control, check the radio’s alignment, and check its current draw. I ship USPS Flat Rate. A tracking number will be provided the following business day after purchase. I will combine shipping when applicable, so please see my other cool old radios for sale in my store. -karl : )_
