Description: Perthsire made weights in three categories: General Range, Limited Edition, and Annual Collection. The General Range weights were produced during a range of years using a consistent design. The Annual Collection weights were the 'fanciest' of the Perthshire weights, and each design was made in only one year. The Limited Edition weights fell in the middle. Typically they were made over a small time period, usually one to three years, and the design was consistent throughout the production. In a very few cases, Limited Edition weights had a new design every year just like the Annual Collection weights. The PP47, made from 1981 through 2002 is such a weight. The PP47 started out with a consistent design in its first two years of production -- thirteen large scattered complex millefiori and or picture canes in rings of 1, 4, and 8, on a ground of white upset muslin. For the next seven years until 1989 the design remained the same, but the color of the upset muslin changed. In 1990 the ground went back to white, and remained that way until the end of production. From 1990 to 1992 the outer ring of large complex canes was replaced with a tight ring of smaller complex canes on the periphery of the weight. In 1993 a new design was produced every year, with the only common element being the white muslin ground. In 1996 the designs began to incorporate lampwork elements as well as millefiori. Finally, in 1998 the weights began to be faceted. The version of the weight produced in 2000 featured a large five petaled flower. The petals are teardrop shaped with rings of amethyst and white surrounding a light blue center. They meet at a yellow complex cane at the center of the flower. Between each petal are two bright green stems, one of which ends in two elliptical leaves, and the other in a red and green bud. This design is surrounded by a ring of blue and white complex canes, all on the white upset muslin ground. The weight is faceted with five oval side punties and one round top puntie. All punties are concave. The base was ground flat, and then an additional concave circular depression was ground. It is signed with a central cane on the base that reads '2000 P', and additionally by the original Perthshire sticker on the base. The weight is 2.5" in diameter and 1.6" tall, and is in perfect condition. Perthshire was founded in 1968 by Stuart Drysdale, then General Manager of Strathearn Glass. His intent was to produce high quality paperweights in the classic French Style. Perthshire Paperweights did just that until the factory closed in 2002. Item #N00098
