Description: This vintage teacher resource book for making learning games is adorable! It was purchased at a local teacher's store. It is in excellent condition, considering how long I have had it, but it is missing the very last set of patterns for the game "Cone Words" that focuses on the short vowel a! This book was given to me by a coworker when she retired, and the last few pages were missing when I received it. I did not include a photo of the back cover, as it only shows other Edupress teacher resource books, and I thought people would prefer to see an extra photo of a page within the book. This item is clean and comes from a smoke free home. This book was written by Joanie Campbell, Kathy Rogers, and Linda Milliken and illustrated by Barb Lorseyedl. The publisher is Edupress and the copyright is 1995. It has 192 pages, as the last few are missing. I imagine that it probably originally had 195. There is a table of contents and a "User's Guide" which generally explains how to make the 48 manipulative games in the book. Originally this book had patterns for 49 games. This book has perforated pages, so they can easily be removed. This book is divided into the following 5 curriculum areas: Color Recognition, Shape Recognition, Visual Discrimination, Numbers, and Alphabet Recognition & Letter Sounds. There are manipulative patterns for 6 games under "Color Recognition", 5 under "Shape Recognition", 10 under "Visual Discrimination", 14 under "Number", and 13 under "Alphabet Recognition & Letter Sounds". There were originally 14 under the last area, but the pages for the last group of patterns is missing. The following are the skills for the manipulative patterns under each area: Color Recognition (color and color word recognition), Shape Recognition (shape matching, shape and shape word recognition), Visual Discrimination (size discrimination, size comparison, visual discrimination, categorizing, sorting and categorizing, visual matching, object association), Numbers (counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's, number and number word identification, number identification and counting sets, simple addition with numbers and sets, simple subtraction with numbers and sets, simple addition and subtraction), Alphabet Recognition & Letter Sounds (capital/lowercase letter match, digraphs oa, ai, and ee, short vowel sounds for /a/ and /i/, short and long vowel sounds for /o/, capital and lowercase letter recognition, short and long vowel sounds for /u/, short and long vowel sounds for /e/, beginning letter sounds, ending letter sounds). In this teacher resource book, the patterns are printed to create a 2-sided instructional resource. Photocopying isn't necessary unless the plan is to create multiple sets for use as learning center activities, take-home practice tools, or cooperative group manipulatives. Although, I might suggest copying the patterns onto card stock if you wanted to make them even more durable before laminating them. The instructional box for each pattern has 2 parts. One is "How to Make" and the other is "How to Use". Under the "How to Make" section, there are a few simple steps that need to be followed for creating the manipulative. They are designed to easily assemble. It is suggested that the directions be read carefully, as the eventual use of the manipulatives may be related to color selection. It is recommended that bright colors be selected to create manipulatives that are visually appealing to children. Under the "How to Use" section, the instructions explain the suggested use and implementation of each manipulative. Some manipulatives are self-checking. Others require a verbal response. All are very easy for children to learn to use. This teacher resource book would make a wonderful addition to a kindergarten or primary classroom! It would also be great to have in a household with young children! I am hoping to find it a good home.
