Description: You are bidding on one Weiss & Sohn iron or blade or cutter, plus the chip breaker and chip breaker screw, all for a wood plane as pictured.The iron is marked with "MANG - CHROM VANADIUM" and "JOH WEISS SOHN WIEN" in their logo. Wien is the German word for Vienna. Width at the sharp end is about 39mm, which is about a 32nd over 1-1/2". Overall length of the iron is about 7-1/2". It is a parallel iron, about .103" thick for its entire length. The chip breaker has the two notches to keep it in alignment, but that also requires the user to nearly remove the chip breaker screw to separate the iron from the chip breaker. Johann Weiss made tools in Vienna, Austria, beginning in 1820. The company became Weiss & Sohn (and son) in 1845, and continued in business well into the 1940's. Condition is very good, appearing lightly used. The iron and chip breaker are both reasonably bright and shiny, each with an area stained from some dried grease or cosmoline. There is some faint patina (color) on the front side of the iron, some near the sharp edge and some alongside the slot. The upper two thirds of the back side of the iron, and most of the back side of the chip breaker, have the black painted coating over much of the iron which is typical of Weiss irons. Those areas have some slight roughness and some dirt which might be cosmoline or grease to clean off. There is some light surface rust on the edges of the iron and on the chip breaker screw. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location.
