Description: You are bidding on one keyhole style lever cap for a Union Manufacturing Company Number 3 or similar wood plane as pictured. To be clear, this cap is not marked. But looking at the pattern on the keyhole and the location and shape of the spring, as viewed from the backside, it appears to be a Union cap.The nominal width is 1-3/4", actual width is very close to 1-3/4". Overall length is about 5-3/16". It will benefit from a cleaning. Condition is good, with much of the black finish in place, but that finish has quite a few scratches and some is missing on the lever. It might be the original japanning, although it might have been repainted, I can't decide. The front side also has a bit of rust showing through the japanning. The back side has some rust, especially on the spring. The lower edge has a tiny chip, which is actually a small chip in the japanning and a tiny tiny chip in the cast iron. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location.
