Description: You are bidding on one iron or blade or cutter for a Union Manufacturing Company wood plane as pictured. It is marked "UNION MFG CO NEW BRITAIN CT USA".Width at the lower edge is about 1-11/16", and width near the upper end is about a 32nd under that. Overall length is about 6-13/16".I would assume that this was intended for a Union Number 3 plane, but the width isn't too far away from fitting a Number 2 plane. The edges of the iron have grinding marks perpendicular to the iron, and my guess is that those are the original grinding marks as they are very consistent on both edges.Condition is fair to good, with grinding marks on the lower several inches on both sides. The front side has some casting flaws near the bottom of the slot, and some pitting mostly up by the logo. It has seen some flattening. The back side has some scratches near the lower edge, and some pitting in the upper half. The upper end has been ground down a bit. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location.
