Description: Excerpt: paratroopers are not born- they are made. Jump training is the roughest, most intensive training in the army today. It must be, for correct procedures must become mechanical in the split second timing that in paratrooping means the difference between safe delivery and to combat or death. Thus, the making of a paratrooper is a studied, scientific development. He must be toughened physically and conditioned mentally so that he will not only unhesitatingly jump from airplanes, but so that he will land ready for battle more than the equal of any soldier that an enemy can put into the field. Jump school is designed to do just that. From the moment a volunteer begins airborne training, the physical requirements get steadily more rugged and more difficult: the mental development, although slower, progresses nonetheless to more and more difficult tests devised to permit only the best to get through. There are only two grades in this school: superior- or failure!
