Yazoo Witch Cemetery Dirt Necklace Please read, This necklace was made by myself from the dirt from the Yazoo Witch in Glenwood cemetery, in Yazoo City in Mississippi. It is made from an old rosary and a pendant with dirt and flowers from the grave. It is 20 inches long and the pendant has a clasp and can be removed from the necklace it’s on. This necklace does hold a powerful energy and at times you can see faces and figures in the pendant. The Witch of Yazoo still haunts the town she burned In Glenwood Cemetry in Yazoo City, large, oval chain links surround a grave. There's no name associated with who's buried there. She is simply known as "The Witch of Yazoo." "The witch is very much alive,". The legend is like this big bellows that keeps blowing wind onto these flames and it keeps going." On May 25, 1904, the Witch of Yazoo City broke out of these curious chain links surrounding her grave and burned down Yazoo City," it reads. As legend has it, the woman, whose name is not known, lived on the Yazoo River and would lure fishermen in off the river and then torture them. The sheriff found some skeletons in the witch's shed one day and wanted answers. The witch fled, and a posse of deputies followed her into the swamp. When they caught up to her, she was sinking in quicksand. As she sunk to her death, she swore to return in 20 years and burn the town to the ground. She was buried in Glenwood Cemetery, and the chain was placed around the grave to keep her spirit from coming back. The witch, according to legend, died on May 25, 1884 — 20 years to the day before the great fire that destroyed the town, which leveled 200 homes and almost every business in Yazoo City. While the fire is said to have started in the kitchen of a young woman preparing for her wedding, visityazoo.org explains there seemed to be a vengeful force at work. "While this is quite possible and certainly innocent enough, it is the strange and fierce winds that were blowing on that fateful day, unusual for the time, that lead many to blame the witch. "When a town completely burns to the ground, it is kind of a turning point, just a little bit of a kind of a marker there in history, there's a little bit of a boat dock there. The strangest part, she said, is that nobody really knows who the witch is. She refers to her as "the person who is buried there."
