Description: Photo is of a typical Hellas 'Westonbirt' AM-FCC-AGM/RHS, flower. The plants being offered are established in pot and have at least one old growth and one new growth. The grex Paph. Hellas was registered in 1940 by the firm H. G. Alexander Ltd. in the UK. The clone 'Westonbirt' was awarded an Award of Merit in 1942, a First Class Certificate in 1947 and an Award of Garden Merit in 1993, all from the Royal Horticultural Society in England. Besides being a truly classic Orchid well worth having in a collection, it is also an exceptional breeding plant, being very fertile both as a pod parent and a pollen parent. OrchidWiz X7.3 lists 335 First Generation (F1) Offspring, with 87 of these crosses awarded. There have been 369 individual awards granted over these 87 crosses. Years ago I asked Paul Phillips of Ratcliffe Orchids what he would use Hellas 'Westonbirt' on for breeding, and his one word answer was, "Everything". I ship when night temperatures in Chicago are 30 degrees F or above.
