History of Pairpoint Glass Co.Founded in South Boston in 1837 Pairpoint, previously known as the Mount Washington Glass Company (as they were built next door to Mnt. Wash.), became widely known for producing the finest glass made anywhere in the United States. They’re currently the oldest glass company in the U.S. With a history of producing the highest quality glass, examples of Pairpoint's timelss designs can be found in over 30 museums across the country, including the decorative arts collections of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. The invention of the light bulb and the corresponding rise of electricity was key to the company's success in the late 19th century. Queen Victoria and US President Grover Cleveland both received Pairpoint Burmese Glass pieces as gifts; and in 1893 a Pairpoint Lamp adorned The White House in Lincoln's bedroom. Over the years, Pairpoint has had several owners with major reorganizations, as the glass markets have changed. However, they have again returned to their classic high-end designs and recognition in the 21st century. In recent years they were commissioned to produce the Boston Marathon trophies and the Ladies Professional Golf Tournament Championships, to name a few. This would make a lovely gift for the holidays, a birthday, anniversary, or just as a special acknowledgment for those that are loved and cared for.As with all of our merchandise, this basket will be wrapped in a decorative tissue, bubble and safely boxed.
