Description: Pair of Vintage Chinese Blanc de Chine Guanyin Goddess Porcelain Figurines w Lotus Flower Blossoms 11" tall, approximately 3" diameter Revered in Buddhism and Taoism, Guan Yin, goddess of mercy, is the embodiment of compassion. Depicted here holding a lotus blossom and standing atop a pedestal festooned with lotus flowers, she is among the most worshipped Bodisattvas, those who have delayed entrance to Paradise to help others attain enlightenment. The vast range in prices for these statues is attributable to age, size, and condition, and by those standards this is a very nice pair. There are a few flaws as mentioned in the condition description. The McKinley Tariff of 1890 required the country of origin be placed on all exports to the U.S; the law was amended in 1914 to include the words "made in." Consequently, the faint impression of "China" on the base of one statue (see photo) places their making in the late Qing Dynasty, circa 1900. Eleven inches tall and three inches wide, the pair is in very good condition. Very faint and limited crazing on the statues. Please note: the discoloration inside the sleeves of the goddesses' gowns where her hands emerge are endemic to all these statues since the hands were applied separately.
