Description: An amazing pair of 19th Century Gothic Revival Bronze Bookends depicting a pair of Roman Soldiers. These are a very nice looking pair of bookends that will compliment any library, study or office. They have a weighted triple stepped base, the soldiers wearing armor, stand within a doorway with Gothic elements within a steepled Gothic archway. These are actual bronze and not cast iron or a composite as many that are found, and are likely to be mid to late 19th century. There is no maker mark or foundry mark on either piece, but possibly French made. They each weigh slightly over 2.5 pounds and they measure approx 9.5" tall and 4.5" wide. In overall very good condition. One does have a small hole through the bottom of it's robe, from what is probably having resulted during it's initial casting. The both have a pinkish hue in a few spots, that I suspect might be from a color that was added and has worn off or possibly a bit of corrosion of some sort. Please see pics for more description and feel free to ask questions.
