Description: Antique GAUDY WELSH Oyster Salad Plate ~ Pair Offering a beautiful pair (2) of salad plates in the Gaudy Welsh pattern, circa early 19th Century. The plates offered are a comparatively early example of utilitarian Gaudy Welsh made to be used among the lower and middle class households. Gaudy Welsh wares were somewhat inexpensive to produce because the decoration required little talent or skill to apply. Gaudy Welsh was produced on late transitional creamware, late transitional pearlware, whiteware, bone China porcelain and categorized under some 125 pattern groupings dating from the late 1820s and continuing up into the 1850s.
