Original red cloth gilt in its original orange dustwrapper. The dustwrapper is complete and is in unusually nice condition, clean and bright with just a hint of wear to the spine ends and corner tips (see pictures). The book itself is in excellent condition, having been protected by the dustwrapper, with the edges remaining sharp and titles remaining bright. Internally clean, bright and free of inscriptions. Binding sound and square. A Fine copy. Scarce in dustwrapper. This book purports to be the memoirs of an Englishwoman who had served as a legionnaire for five years, who had written to Wren under the pseudonym Mary Ambree asking him to edit her badly-written diary. Rather oddly, this unlikely tale appears to have been taken at face value by contemporary reviewers, and to this day the book is listed as non-fiction in Wren's Wikipedia entry!
