Description: Out of Sequence: Underrepresented Voices in American Comics, by Damian Duff and John Jennings, Krannert Art Museum, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 2009. 152 pages, 9.2 x 0.4 x 11.9 inches. The publication is new and unread, although there is a bookplate on the title page. Out of Sequence is an exploration of the question: what are comics? It is a declaration of the diversity of sequential art in the United States, diversity not just of creators but also of content and form. It is a broad survey of women, small press, minority, independent, gay and lesbian, self-published, mini, underground, web, and gallery comics creators, featuring the work of 70 artists. Damian Duffy is editor-in-chief of the Eye Trauma Comix online anthology and writer and letterer of several graphic novels, including Whisp. John Jenning is an artist and associate professor of graphic design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The two have collaborated on many projects and co-founded Eye Trauma. Other contributors include Jerry Craft, Shaenon K. Garrity, Robert C. Harvey, Trina Robbins, Brian Wood, and Daniel F. Yezbick.
